Weekly vs Bi-Weekly mowing
Every yard is different, every region of the country is
different, how much water does the yard receive (amount of
rainfall or do you have an irrigation system), and the time of
the season (early or late), how much grass needs to be removed
during the mowing (more than 1/3 is not recommended to maintain
a healthy lawn)
Is there a cost savings? That depends on what you include in the
'cost' but from a money point of view, our minimum weekly service
to mow is 40.00. That times 52 weeks and divided by 12 is a
monthly cost of 173.33 (we don't mow every week of the year but to
make the math easier, let's just compare on a yearly basis). for
Biweekly we charge 60. That times 26 weeks divided by 12 is
130.00. So, yes, you would save money in the long run.
Much of the research we have done on bi-weekly mowing tells
us there could be additional cost in seed, fertilizer, or other
additives if you want to keep the lawn looking good between
cuts. We found examples of the extremes from 'no worries, it's
only brown for a day or two...' all the way to having to
're-seed the lawn because it all died...'
What we see on bi-weekly mowing, your lawn will start out a
little brown from cutting too much off (and it will take time to
get the lawn mowed and the clippings handled), after a good rain
or a couple of days it will be fine for about another four to
five days (depending on rainfall or if it is watered), then it
will start looking like you need a cut and for the next 3 to 4+
days it will look unkempt
In general, we recommend weekly mowing. Frequent mowing
reduces the stress on the lawn, is less time consuming, and
produces a better quality lawn for overall curb appeal. An
alternative may be a monthly agreement
A Google Search for 'Should I mow weekly or biweekly' (about
609,000 hits) with the majority stating the same results and
suggesting weekly. Some mention the preferred is every 3-4 days
during peak growing season with prime conditions
Here are some of the resources we found on Google:
To be fair we also searched 'why biweekly mowing is better'
Didn't find much, mostly lawn care providers complaining
about bi-weekly and how much longer it takes to produce a
quality looking lawn. Some mentioned the brown patches that
show up.
